Real Estate Tax Assessments:

Real estate taxes for fiscal year 2010/2011 in the City of Chesapeake are assessed by the Real Estate Assessor at 100% of fair market value X $1.04 per $100 of assessed value for non-mosquito control areas and $1.05 per $100 in mosquito control areas.

Land Records:

The Chesapeake land records are maintained by the Clerk of the Circuit Court  indexed in books and on computer.  The deeds and other documents are available in books and as digital images on a computer at the courts building. Internet access to land records is currently available for a substantial fee.

Tax Records:

The real estate tax is billed quarterly of each fiscal year, beginning July 1st.

1st quarter - beginning July 1st, payable by September 30th
2nd quarter - beginning October 1st, payable by December 31st
3rd quarter - beginning January 1st, payable by March 31st
4th quarter - beginning April 1st, payable by June 5th

 

The real estate tax records are maintained by the City Treasurer in the City Hall building. For information call the Treasurer's Office at (757) 382-6281. Internet access to tax payment records is currently available for a fee of 50¢ per page.

Storm Water and Solid Waste Fees:

Billing for storm water and solid waste fees in Chesapeake is conducted by the City Treasurer. The storm water assessment is $44.10 for improved residential properties due semi-annually on June 5 and December 5 of each calendar year. The solid waste assessment is $18.00 for residential properties due semi-annually on June 5 and December 5 of each fiscal year. The City Treasurer maintains a record of payment and non-payment with the real estate tax records. Internet access to storm water and solid waste fee payment records is currently available for a fee of 50¢ per page.
